Due to the untimely death of Mr. H.P. Lovecraft, combined with his lack of obvious heirs, and an interesting combination of the U.S. copyright laws, it appears that all of the works he has written belong in the public domain. While it could be argued that his family (should he have had any) would have been well served by the wealth that could have been brought in by his writings, I would argue that more cultural wealth is being generated by the public distribution of his writing. More detailed information is available here.
I would also like to thank William Johns for compiling and presenting this compendium of stories. Without his (and other people's) efforts, this search engine, and the contents would not be possible.
